I feed it the cable’s characteristics (R, C, L, G values) and it gives me the attenuation and phase angle parameters, the complex characteristic impedance value, the amount of reflection when poorly terminated at either or both ends, and a few other interesting data. My spreadsheet (fig. 1) tells me that The First is indeed 93 ohms at 20MHz, asymptotically approaching 84 ohms at higher frequencies, but climbing to 119 ohms at 10MHz and an atrocious 349 ohms at 1MHz! Its internal attenuation is also frequency-dependent: 0.8dB/m at 1MHz and 2.4dB/m at 20MHz. |
