Thanks.
I am a jaded audiophile. I believe that speakers in the 80s and 90s are exceptionally musical.
Auditioned Linn Keilidh yesterday, given its price tag and reputation, it was a mixed bag. Keilidh is smooth and unobtrusive but the images seems blended in the sonic fabric, undistinctable. Bass was not taut. In a nutshell, not the same league as SL6s.
Given the age of Celestion SL6s, the woofers might be most problematic. Irreplaceable speaker ring and friction of voice coil due to overheating. I acquired 2 pairs SL6s in 3 months time, both give me similar problems. The polypropylnene cone drivers are responsible for how the SL6s sound. I replaced a Wharfedale paper cone on SL6s, the glorious "wet" mid and the tightness was lost.
To my mind, Rogers and other speakers that uses PP cone share the similarity of sound. |
