LV1/V2 gain stage - these need to be gain matched and must be low noise
LV2/V1 - not in signal path, regulators, can influence gain
the rest - cathode followers, no gain so no matching necessary
LV1/LV2 and V1/V2 interact with each other. In preamps matching is gain
matching, and is easily done with many tubes on hand. If not, gain matching
can be done through the use of the balance control on the front
panel/remote. There's really nothing wrong with this, but people don't seem
to like the idea of the tubes themselves not being gain matched. The net
result is the same.
Phase balance is a different story, and is important when using balanced
connection (does not affect SE). Since it is very hard to find two tubes
with four identical sections in them, we've incorporated a balance control
for the two halves within each tube - it's the trimpot in each channel that
can be seen with the cover off. Disconnect outputs, feed a 1 kHz sine wave
through a generator or test CD, set volume to 78 or thereabouts, measure AC
voltage across XLR output pins 1-2 and compare with voltage across pins 1-3.
Rotate trimpot until they're both equal. (A THD analyzer is the real way,
but I'm assuming it's not accessible.)

Its input stage is a differential amplifier consisting of one 6922 twin triode per channel, with an AC balance control between its cathodes. This control's wiper is connected to the plate of a 6GH8 pentode/triode tube's pentode section (more about its triode section later). This pentode functions as a constant - current source for the input differential pair and is connected to a regulated -125-volt supply. The plate outputs of the differential pair are connected through 12-kilohm plate-load resistors to a regulated 176-volt supply; each input triode conducts about 4.7 milliamperes.
From the input stage's plates, signals are capacitor-coupled to the output stage, which is configured as a cathode follower with a constant-current source. In this case, the cathode follower consists of paralleled halves of two 6922 dual-triode tubes while the constant current source uses the other halves of these tubes, also in parallel. Each channel therefore uses four 6922 dual-triode tubes, two per signal phase. This stage receives power at +125 and -125 volts from dedicated voltage regulators. The signal is directly coupled from the cathodes of these 6922s to the output. 』
