ES11

The ES11 is our compact loudspeaker for music lovers. Many advanced techniques have been brought to bear on its design and development, and much use made of new materials in its construction. But we have not allowed technology to take over the product. For us the ultimate goal is musical enjoyment, and technology is no more than a vehicle which helps us reach that goal.
DESIGN INTENTIONS
Our design brief was simple. We sought to develop a loudspeaker of compact size and affordable cost which would provide a high level of satisfaction for the listener who places music and not 'hi-fi' at the top of his priorities. We set about our task with no notion of making piecemeal advances in loudspeaker technology. Instead, we sought to produce a balanced design, with no undue emphasis on any single aspect of performance. Only by carefully balancing the many conflicting requirements could we hope to ensure that our loudspeaker as a whole would be greater than the sum of its parts.
THE DRIVE UNITS
The ES11 utilises a 165mm bass driver and a 25mm tweeter. Both are brand new designs, developed specifically for the ES11.
The bass driver is built on a remarkably stiff and inert chassis which is injection moulded as an integral part of the loudspeaker's front baffle. The cone is thermo-formed from a stable polymer material and has a profile which was carefully developed to provide well-controlled axial and polar performance characteristics. A synthetic rubber roll surround with a high degree of hysteresis terminates the cone and minimises the generation of standing waves across the cone's surface.
The voice coil is wound on an aluminium former with high-temperature wire. A costly and labour-intensive wet-winding process using an extremely strong resin adhesive is employed in preference to the more common solvent bonding method. By wet winding we can be sure of producing a very rugged voice coil which will provide years of reliable service.
The ES11 has a phase plug protruding from the cone apex, rather than the more usual dust cap. The plug has a precisely contoured form which modifies the diffraction characteristics at the centre of the cone and provides better polar performance than would be possible with a dust cap.
The bass drive unit is completed by a magnet assembly with a centre pole extending considerably forward of the top plate. This serves to linearise the lines of magnetic flux which are cut by the voice coil as it moves outward from its rest position and helps ensure a low level of harmonic distortion.
Like big brother ES 14, the new ES11 bass driver has a precisely controlled bandwidth. The upper frequency roll-out is inherent in the mechanical design of the unit and no external crossover circuitry is required. This provides considerable benefits in control and transparency, with the driving amplifier being connected directly to the bass driver terminals.
The tweeter has a dome fabricated from aluminium alloy. Epos Acoustics are among the most experienced designers of metal dome tweeters and the ES11 profits from our accumulated knowledge. Every care has been taken to improve the linearity of this tweeter, every useful device employed to advance its performance to the state of the art.
A polyamide suspension locates the aluminium dome and provides the necessary restoring force, while the dome is acoustically loaded by a separate rear chamber. Vents in the voice coil former equalise the pressure on each side of the coil and help guard against asymmetric pressure distortion.
Magnetic fluid is introduced into the magnet gap to provide enhanced thermal transfer from the voice coil to the magnet system. This improves reliability and reduces dynamic compression.
The rugged nature of the tweeter, coupled with its good linearity at the lower end of its passband, enables operation with the minimum of external crossover circuitry: just one high-quality capacitor is present in the signal path. We believe that this approach to crossover network design helps in no small measure to enhance the loudspeaker's ability to resolve fine detail.
THE CABINET
The cabinet is a unique structure which utilises exceptionally rigid and inert injection mouldings for its front and rear baffles. The front baffle is moulded as an integral structure with the bass driver chassis. This ensures that the coupling between the bass driver and the baffle is precisely and consistently defined, unlike conventional systems where the coupling is influenced by the varying tightness of fixing screws.
The front and rear baffles are tensioned by steel rods, with the 25mm-thick MDF cabinet wrap sandwiched between them. The resultant assembly is immensely rigid and free from troublesome resonant modes.
CONNECTIONS
Facilities for bi-wiring are provided on the ES11. Two pairs of high quality solid brass terminals allow separate cables to be used to connect the bass driver and tweeter to the driving amplifier, bringing enhanced control and resolution.
POWER REQUIREMENTS
Amplifiers rated at between 25 and 75 watts into 8 ohms will generally be found suitable for use with the ES11. More powerful amplifiers can be used with caution, but amplifiers capable of less than 25 watts are best avoided.
POSITIONING
The ES11 will give its best performance in most rooms when placed close to the back wall and at least 50cm from the nearest side wall. A space of about 20cm is required behind the loudspeaker to allow proper operation of the rear-firing reflex port.
The use of rigid stands is recommended, and purpose designed Epos stands are available.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality available from the ES11 can best be described by words such as revealing and involving. Transparency and definition are an inherent part of the ES11's character. Above all else, however, the ES11 is a loudspeaker with which you can relax. The reproduction of music for your enjoyment is its role in life.
AUDITIONING
The ES11 is available from a small number of enthusiastic and competent retailers who are at pains to demonstrate and sell complimentary equipment. It is most important to realise that combinations of the "best" or the most highly rated equipment do not necessarily make good systems. The advice of a good retailer is invaluable in helping to prevent money being wasted on unsuitable combinations of equipment.
The ES11, like any other piece of precision equipment, needs to be used correctly to achieve its intended performance. A judgement made of a loudspeaker with unwisely chosen partnering equipment, or in a poorly set-up system is no judgement at all.

ES14

" The Epos Acoustics ES14 loudspeaker system was conceived with one aim in mind: the reproduction of music in the home. It seeks to guide the listener away from the mechanics of music reproduction and towards the music itself.
It makes a virtue of basic simplicity and elegant engineering. It is a masterpiece of clear thinking and purposeful engineering, its task unhindered by peripheral trivia and worthless gimmicks. "
Design IntentionsFew loudspeakers have undergone as much painstaking development, and fewer still incorporate so much advanced thinking and precision engineering. The intelligent application of technology is the ES14's hallmark. Engineering with a purpose, not engineering as an end. Epos differs from many loudspeaker manufacturers in its total commitment to designing and building its own unique state-of-the-art drive units. Epos loudspeakers are not restrained by the indifferent design and poor performance of many bought-in drive units. Epos drive units are designed and built to exacting standards.
Such is their precision and so capable their performance, that Epos loudspeakers can dispense with the complicated electrical crossover and equalisation networks which bedevil most manufacturers' products. Epos drive units need no corrective signal manipulation and remain in complete control no matter how complex the music.
The absence of complex electrical circuitry pays handsome dividends in bringing the loudspeaker into tighter contact with the driving amplifier and significantly reduces the complexity of the amplifier's role. Both amplifier and loudspeaker function to better effect and bring a greatly increased sense of transparency and focus into play.
The Drive units
The 200mm bass driver and 26mm treble driver are of Epos Acoustics' own design and manufacture. Both units incorporate the most advanced design thinking and stand head and shoulders above the common run of drive units. The bass driver employs a highly stable plastic cone and synthetic rubber surround, while the tweeter employs an aluminium-alloy dome. The units are engineered so as to integrate properly with one another without the need for extensive electrical correction circuitry. Cabinet Finish
Black ash, mahogany or walnut wood veneer with black textured drive unit frames. Power Requirements
The ES14 presents an extremely easy load to the driving amplifier, even under the most demanding dynamic conditions. It requires, nevertheless, a competently designed amplifier to achieve its full performance. An amplifier rated at between 25 watts and 100 watts into 8 ohms will generally be found suitable. Impedance
8 ohms nominal. The impedance does not fall below 7 ohms and contains insignificant reactive components. Positioning
The ES14 will give its best performance in most rooms when placed about 250mm - 500mm (10"-20") from the back wall and at least 500mm (20") from the side wall. Rigid floor stands of about 350mm - 500mm (14"-20") height should be used. The stands must be placed firmly on the floor and the loudspeakers placed firmly on the stands. Any movement of the loudspeaker cabinet will be reflected in reduced clarity and definition. Excessive movement will also reduce the impact and solidity of bass reproduction. Open frame stands of light and rigid construction are generally found to work best with the ES14 and the dedicated stands are available from your dealer. Further benefit can be gained by arranging for minimum contact between the stands and the loudspeakers. Spikes or small cones are ideal for this purpose.
Connections
Facilities for bi-wiring are provided on the ES14. Two pairs of high quality solid brass terminals allow separate cables to be used to connect the bass driver and tweeter to the driving amplifier, bringing enhanced control resolution. Auditioning
The ES14 is available from a small number of enthusiastic and competent retailers who are at pains to demonstrate and sell complementary and sympathetic equipment. It is most important to realise that combinations of the 'best' or the most highly-rated equipment do not necessarily make good systems. The advice of a good retailer is invaluable if money is not to be wasted on unwise combinations of equipment. The ES14, like any other piece of precision equipment, needs to be used correctly to achieve its intended performance. A judgement made of the loudspeaker with unwisely chosen partnering equipment, or in a poorly set-up system is no judgement at all.
When listening, judge the loudspeaker on its ability to provide you with enjoyment from the music. Do not try to analyse individual aspects of the loudspeaker's technical performance such as its tonal balance or frequency extension. Judge its ability to let you follow individual instrumental parts within a piece of music. Judge its ability to integrate the various instruments into a pleasing and harmonic ensemble. Ask yourself the question 'Do I enjoy listening to this loudspeaker?' at frequent intervals. Whether you enjoy listening or not is infinitely more important than any question of frequency response, tonal balance or colouration.

ES12

Epos Acoustics proudly announced the world launch of a new model, the ES12 loudspeaker, at Hi-Fi '96, New York. The speaker is available in two real wood veneer finishes, Dark Cherry and Light Cherry. The design remains faithful to the spirit of Epos with the emphasis on musicality and communication and follows closely the style of the successful ES22 model.
The ES12 features a brand new, aluminium dome tweeter designed in-house, using a high efficiency magnet system to improve sensitivity, transient response and reduce smearing. This improves imaging and enhances the pace, rhythm and timing characteristics that have become Epos hallmarks.
The newly developed bass/midrange driver has a new injection moulded cone piston, precision profiled to improve transient response and integration with the tweeter. The cabinet is a low diffraction design, eliminating secondary sources of sound, improving stereo imaging and detail resolution. Extensive internal bracing reduces cabinet colouration and a gas-flowed reflex port is used to reduce turbulence.
In true Epos tradition only one component is used in the crossover with the performance of the bass/mid driver being controlled mechanically. This results in a level of detail, resolution and communication unheard in a loudspeaker of this class.
Graeme Foy, Development Engineer, says, "The ES12 is the latest in a remarkable line of Epos loudspeakers, using sound engineering principles to good effect. I am extremely pleased with the end result and am confident that other music lovers will agree."

ES15

" The ES15 comes in response to an overwhelming demand for a small footprint, discreet froor-standing loudspeaker with the musical qualities inherent in the stand-mounting ES12.
Along with the ability to integrate unobtrusively into any decor, the ES15 provides more low frequency extention than its bookshelf counterpart. However, true to Epos tradition, its bass is fast, tuneful and cohesive. "
Design Intentions
The highly popular, award-winning ES12 remains a landmark product for Epos. However many music lovers nowadays prefer not to use loudspeakers that require stands, finding their appearance inappropriate in many home enviroments. To answer requests for what might be called a stand-less ES12, we set out to engineer a streamlined floor-stander: a model with all the desirable qualities of a compact loudspeaker but housed in a tower-style enclosure. The result is the Epos ES15, in which musical integrity embraces complete domestic acceptability.
The Drive units
Both the drive units in the ES15 are developments of the advanced designs engineered for ES12, optimised specifically for this loudspeaker.
The high frequency unit
The in-house designed tweeter uses a 25mm, low mass, aluminium alloy dome and a nitrile rubber suspension. Resilient and free from audible break-up resonance, it provides exceptionally clear, fast treble with an outstanding transient response that effortlessly captures the most subtle detail. A high-efficiency magnetic system raises its sensitivity while reducing distortion. Liquid cooling improves its power handling and linearity.
The bass/midrange unit
Housed in low coloration, rigid polimer chassis, which forms an integral part of the loudspeaker baffle, the 150mm bass/midrange driver uses an injection-moulded Polypropylene cone whose profile is contoured to optimise its performance. The shallow flared profile of the diafragm delivers an even bass response and provides a controlled roll-off at the upper extreme of its pass-band, allowing a smooth transition to the tweeter.
A large, powerful motor system, including 32mm high power voice coi, optimises the driver's transient performance and provides extended but rigorously controlled bass. The motor system is designed to concentrate the magnetic field where it is required and prevent wasteful flux leakage. The oversized pole piece and a minimal length voice coil provide linear, distortion-free travel of the coil and cone, improving the accuracy and dynamics of the driver's performance.
The Cabinet
The slim, elegant cabinet, attractively finished in real-wood veneer, does more than allow the ES15 to present a pleasing aspect to the listener. It's compact proportions allied with extensive structural bracing minimise panel vibration to reduce transient smear and improve detail retrieval. The dispersal of standing waves provided by the internal bracing and a combination of absorptive and diffusive materials, along with a low diffraction baffle design, ensures accurate, stable imagery and tangible sound staging.
A precisely profiled reflex port augments bass extention. The position of the port is carefully optimised to deliver the boundary loading effects required for extended bass without the smearing of spatial and tonal information caused by turbulence and modal output.
The Crossover In keeping with Epos tradition, and by virtue of scrupulous drive unit design, the ES15 uses a minimal electrical crossover. The bass/midrange unit effectively connects directly to the system amplifier, rolling in and out mechanically. The removal of passive electrical components in the signal path enables the speaker to reveal maximum detail and reproduce the full dynamic power of a musical performance.
The tweeter uses a first order, 6dB/octave network comprising our Dissimilar Value Parallel component technology. This allows the delicate high frequency signals to reach the tweeter through as clean a path as possible, imparting an accurate, lucid quality to the upper octaves. To reduce component microphony and ensure filter stability, the capacitors are hard-wired and mounted in a compliant manner on the self-damped rear baffle.
Power Requirements
The ES15 can be used with any high quality amplifier rated between 25 and 100 Watts. More powerful models may be used with caution, but it is best to avoid amplifiers rated below 25 Watts. Please note however, that amplifier quality is a more important consideration than its power rating: a musically rewarding 50 Watt design will provide greater satisfaction with the ES15 than a less capable 100 Watt model.
Positioning
The ES15 will normally perform well when placed in free space at least 50cm from the nearest wall. It does not require proximity to a room boundary to deliver its correct bass response. For optimum results, however, you should treat your room as an individual acoustic environment and experiment with different placements. Often, moving speakers a few inches closer to or further from a wall will yield superior performance.
Connections
The ES15 equipped for bi-wiring. Two pairs of high quality gold-plated terminals allow the use of separate cables (or amplifiers) to connect the bass/midrange driver and tweeter for improved stereo imagery, control and detail resolution

ES22

The ES22 is a compact, floor-standing loudspeaker that follows the minimalist design approach pioneered in the revered ES14.
The ES22, like all Epos loudspeakers, uses sophisticated but purposeful engineering to ensure that, unlike most, it will not compromise your full enjoyment of music.
Design Intentions
The ES22 draws on the research that produced the widely acclaimed ES25. It aims to provide a similar, musically involving, large-scale presentation from a more easily accommodated enclosure. Like the ES25, it is designed to satisfy listeners whose priority is musical realism and not "hi-fi" artifice by presenting a faithful and exciting insight into all types of music.
The Drive units
The High Frequency Unit
The ES22’s 25mm tweeter uses an aluminium alloy diaphragm terminated by a Polyamide suspension. This combination reduces colouration and enables the driver to handle high power without distress. A vented voice coil and magnetic liquid cooling system augment its power handling ability and smooth its frequency response. Rear cavity loading and a new, high efficiency magnet system focus its transient response and eliminate temporal smearing, giving the ES22 impeccable pace, rhythm and timing.
The tweeter’s excellent linearity allows it to operate with minimal external tailoring. There is only one high quality capacitor present in its signal path and this "minimalist" network design greatly increases the loudspeaker’s ability to resolve detail and dynamics.
The Midrange Unit
The 150mm midrange driver uses a robust, die-cast aluminium chassis fitted with a newly developed, injection moulded polymer cone. The rigid chassis provides exceptional detail resolution and transient response while the cone’s unique profile gives improved performance over its bandwidth and provides smooth integration with the tweeter. The driver will handle high levels cleanly without producing colouration or distortion.
A new 32mm voice coil is wet wound on an aluminium former with high-temperature wire for efficient heat dissipation, which reduces the distortion and dynamic compression that rob music of its ‘life’. In conjunction with a computer optimised magnet assembly, this elaborate construction produces a driver whose performance is characterised by exceptional linearity, wide ranging dynamics and seamless integration with the other units. A phase plug further improves the driver’s ability to integrate and deliver outstanding stereo imagery.
The driver is housed in an isolated enclosure to protect it from vibrations produced by the bass unit. The benefits include reduced distortion in the midband and superb transient response.
The Low Frequency Unit
The ES22’s 150mm bass driver only handles low bass. It is built around a rigid, die-cast aluminium chassis, with an injection moulded polymer cone and stiff dust cap and features a powerful motor system offering high sensitivity, substantial power handling and excellent linearity. Coupled with the unit’s rigid chassis and essentially pistonic cone assembly, this gives the ES22 an extraordinarily potent, accurate low frequency performance.
The Crossover
Every component in the signal path can colour, distort or degrade the music. A minimalist crossover can eliminate these problems but will only function properly with drivers whose mechanical characteristics have been appropriately engineered. The ES22 uses purpose built drivers tailored specifically for this design. The resulting performance benefits are significant.
The midrange driver crosses over mechanically and is directly coupled to the power amplifier for maximum information retrieval and control. This makes the midband responsive, transparent and explicitly detailed. The bass driver and tweeter use single component networks solely to fine tune their integration with the midrange unit.
The ES22’s hard-wired internal connections provide the highest attainable signal path integrity and consistent performance. Individual earth paths to the loudspeaker terminals prevent back-EMFs from one driver influencing the performance of the others.
The Cabinet
The design of the ES22’s cabinet provides remarkable structural integrity and the combination of complementary materials with dissimilar resonant frequencies produces an enclosure with exceptionally low levels of panel radiation, allowing the drive units to perform optimally. Extensive internal bracing reinforces the enclosure and acts as a barrier to internal standing waves, further reducing colouration and improving transient response and stereo imaging.
The port for the bass driver is gas-flowed to provide consistent loading and eliminate the ‘chuffing’ distortion caused by air turbulence.
The ES22’s floor-spikes fit into high torque inserts, providing enhanced transient response and stereo imaging. By allowing easy fine adjustment, these maximise the speaker’s control and ‘punch’ at low frequencies, resulting in tuneful, rhythmically faithful bass.
Power Requirements
The ES22 is suitable for use with any high quality amplifier rated between 50 and 175Watts. More powerful models may be used with caution, but the amplifier’s quality is more important than its power rating: a musically informative 50Watt amplifier will prove more satisfying than a less capable 175Watt model.
Impedance
6 ohms nominal.
Positioning The ES22 will normally perform well when placed in free space at least 50cm from the nearest wall. It does not require boundary reinforcement to deliver its intended bass response. For ideal results, however, you should treat your room as an individual acoustic environment and experiment with different placements. Often, moving the speakers a few inches closer to or further from a wall will yield superior performance.
Connections Three pairs of high current, gold-plated terminals allow the ES22 to be tri-wired or tri-amplified. Providing separate feeds to each of the drive units through premium quality connectors offers worthwhile gains in stereo imagery, control and detail resolution.
Auditioning
Epos speakers are available exclusively through a small number of enthusiastic, highly competent retailers, chosen for their ability to demonstrate and sell complementary equipment. To guarantee satisfactory performance they must be partnered with equally capable equipment, which does not necessarily mean a combination of the best or the most highly rated components. A skilled retailer’s advice and demonstration facilities are invaluable in helping to prevent ES22 buyers wasting money on inappropriate partnering equipment

ES25

The Epos ES25 is a loudspeaker for music lovers. It is a masterpiece of purposeful engineering and clear thinking design that harnesses up to the minute technology to bring lasting musical enjoyment to discerning listeners.
" The ES25 can deliver performances that are wonderfully revealing and compelling. Transparency, clarity and definition are inherent parts of its character. Above all else, the ES25 is a loudspeaker with which you can relax and concentrate solely upon enjoying the music. "
Design Intentions
By using advanced technology - but always remembering that its sole purpose is to render music more accurately - we sought to design a loudspeaker that would provide an exceptional level of satisfaction for the listener whose priority is musical realism and not ‘hi-fi’ artifice. Few loudspeakers have undergone as much painstaking development, and fewer still incorporate as much sophisticated technology and precision engineering, as the ES25. We have carefully employed advanced techniques and materials to produce a truly well balanced loudspeaker, one that places appropriate emphasis on all the vital performance aspects required to offer a faithful, stimulating insight into musical events.
The outstanding precision and finely honed design evident in all Epos loudspeakers enables them to dispense with complicated electrical crossover and equalisation networks, which frequently mar the performance of competing products. The absence of complex circuitry between the loudspeaker drive units and the amplifier pays handsome dividends. By providing a virtually direct path between the amplifier and the loudspeaker, ridding the system of components that can introduce deleterious phase anomalies, the resulting sound enjoys remarkable transparency, dynamics and naturalness.
The Drive units
All the drive units in the ES25 are advanced designs that were developed specifically for this loudspeaker.
The High Frequency Unit
The 25mm tweeter’s dome is formed from aluminium alloy. Epos Acoustics has long been in the fore-front of metal dome technology and the ES25 benefits from many years’ experience and accumulated knowledge. Stringent care has been exercised to ensure the linearity of this tweeter, and all our expertise employed to raise its performance to the finest attainable.
The tweeter uses a polyamide suspension to locate its aluminium dome precisely and provide it with the required restoring force. The dome is acoustically loaded by a separate rear chamber, and vents in the coil former equalise the pressure on the voice coil to eliminate asymmetric pressure distortion. Magnetic fluid in the magnet gap provides enhanced thermal transfer from the voice coil to the magnet system, which improves reliability and reduces dynamic compression.
The rugged nature of the tweeter, coupled with its excellent linearity at the lower end of its pass band enable it to operate with minimal external tailoring: there’s only one high quality capacitor present in its signal path. We firmly believe that this ‘minimalist’ approach to network design greatly improves the loudspeaker’s ability to resolve subtle detail and dynamics.
The Midrange Unit
The 165mm midrange driver uses a robust, extraordinarily rigid, die-cast aluminium chassis. Its injection moulded, stable polymer cone has a specially developed profile that provides well controlled axial and polar performance characteristics. A low hysterisis, nitrile rubber, roll surround terminates the cone and minimises the generation of standing waves across its radiating surface.
The driver has a phase plug protruding from the cone apex, instead of the more common dust cap. This device has a precisely contoured form that modifies the dispersion characteristics at the centre of the cone and provides better polar performance than would be possible with a dust cap.The voice coil is wound on an aluminium former with high-temperature wire. A costly and labour-intensive wet-winding process, using a powerful resin adhesive, is used in preference to the more common solvent bonding. These techniques guarantee that the coil will provide years of reliable service.
At the heart of the driver is a magnet assembly whose centre pole extends far forward of the top plate, which linearises the magnetic flux around the voice coil while it is in motion and ensures minimal harmonic distortion.
The Low Frequency Unit
The 200mm bass driver, which, unlike that found in many three-driver designs, only handles low bass, has a thermoformed Cobex cone piston with an integral dust-cap designed to increase its stiffness. This ensures that the motion of the cone remains pistonic so providing excellent bass extension and control. Its massive magnet system is designed to optimise the transient response of the unit further improving extension and control. A dual rear suspension system, which provides identical diaphragm excursions in both forward and reverse directions, assists further in abolishing low frequency distortion. The result is clear, tuneful, powerful bass.
The Cabinet
The ES25 cabinet is an exceptionally inert structure providing a stable foundation upon which the drive units can operate at their optimum performance level. It is internally braced to provide excellent structural integrity and eliminate any standing waves. The materials used in its construction were chosen to have different resonant properties: the combination of their characteristics enhances the cabinet’s stiffness and damping abilities, which minimises colouration.
Power Requirements
The ES25 is suitable for use with any high quality amplifier rated between 40 and 200Watts. More powerful models may be used with caution, but it is best to avoid amplifiers rated below 40Watts. We would stress, however, that quality is paramount: a musically rewarding 50Watt design will provide more satisfaction with the ES25 than a less capable 200Watt model.
Impedance
6 ohms nominal.
Positioning
The ES25 normally performs well when placed in free space at least 50cm from the nearest wall. It does not require proximity to a boundary to deliver its correct bass response.
Connections
The ES25 provides connections for tri-wiring. Three pairs of high quality, solid brass terminals allow the use of separate cables (or separate amplifiers) to connect the bass driver, midrange driver and tweeter. Multiple wiring or amplification techniques can be employed to bring improved control and detail resolution.
Auditioning
Epos speakers are available exclusively through a small number of enthusiastic, highly competent retailers, chosen for their ability to demonstrate and sell complementary equipment. It is important to realise that combinations of the best or the most highly rated components won’t necessarily result in a satisfactory system. A good retailer’s advice and demonstration facilities are invaluable in helping to prevent ES25 buyers wasting money on inappropriate partnering equipment.

ES30

A particular strong point of this model is the way it presents low frequencies. Balancing quantity with quality is an arduous task and great effort went into guaranteeing that the ES30 could provide carefully integrated bass that possessed both power and poise.
All the drive units in the ES30 are advanced designs developed and manufactured in-house specifically for this loudspeaker by Epos Acoustics.
The ES30 tweeter is a new, proprietary design based upon the unit we developed for the acclaimed ES12. It uses a 25mm, low mass aluminium alloy dome that is just 50 microns thick. This ultra-light yet remarkably stiff diaphragm is driven by a high efficiency, dual magnet system and supported in an optimised chassis by a nitrile rubber suspension. The result is a superbly responsive unit with exceptional linearity, providing great clarity and precision in the upper reaches of the musical spectrum.
Its transient response and thermal stability ensure that the ES30 retains the characteristically tight timing, for which Epos speakers are renowned, even when it is asked to play at high levels for prolonged periods.
The ES30 midrange unit is a development of the bass/midrange driver used in the ES12. We have carefully re-engineered this proven design so that its output blends seamlessly with that of the ES30 bass driver while providing unmatched clarity throughout the crucial midband.
We have, for example, tuned the fundamental resonance of the driver specifically so that it can reproduce the lower register of male voices without crossing over to the bass driver. This avoids timbral discontinuities in the critical voice band where the ear is most sensitive. An extended pole piece and minimal length voice coil provide linear, distortion-free travel of the coil and cone, and enhance the accuracy and dynamics of the driver's performance.
We use a phase plug in place of a conventional dust cap and a mechanical roll-off to obviate the need for any electrical filter between the midrange and tweeter. These ensure perfect integration between the midband and treble by controlling the midrange driver's dispersion characteristics and eliminating phase related anomalies. The result is tonal coherence, dynamic integrity and pinpoint, stable imaging.
Other features adopted to ensure the purity of the driver's output include an injection moulded, flared-profile Polypropylene diaphragm. This is powered by a wet wound, high temperature voice coil on a vented former, and a computer-optimised magnet system. These and other design elements produce a drive unit that is faithful to the signal feeding it and, respecting the demanding nature of potential ES30 customers, a reliable and consistent performer.
The 200mm bass driver used in the ES30 is built by hand specifically for this loudspeaker. Housed in a rigid aluminium chassis, its PVC cone is driven by a short voice coil operating in a long magnet gap. The design enables the cone to move sufficiently to deliver powerful, deep low frequencies while remaining fully under the control of the amplifier driving it.
We have adopted numerous other measures to ensure that the ES30's bass stays in time and in tune with the rest of its musical performance. One is our dual rear suspension system. Its complementary arrangement avoids the distortion generated by other systems where the restoring force upon the driver varies according to the direction in which the cone is travelling. And, as with the mid and high frequency drivers, we have made the bass unit thermally stable so that its performance will not alter when the system is being played at realistic levels for prolonged periods.
The ES30 cabinet is constructed with 32mm MDF and 25mm particle board panels to provide the drive units with an exceptionally stable and inert enclosure in which to operate. Extensive internal bracing further increases the cabinet's structural integrity and eliminates any standing waves.
Optimised enclosure tuning, gas-flowed reflex ports and specially selected damping materials all contribute to low colouration, while the low diffraction baffle provides remarkably stable and acute stereo imagery.
The ES30 is equipped for tri-wiring. Three pairs of laboratory test standard, high current, gold-plated terminals allow the use of separate cables (or separate amplifiers) to connect the bass driver, midrange driver and tweeter. Multiple wiring or amplification techniques provide improved stereo imagery, control and detail resolution.
The ES30 is a loudspeaker that will allow you to enjoy recordings thoroughly, without causing you to be distracted or restricted by the shortcomings displayed by most loudspeakers, when the music becomes demanding. The astonishing scope of its dynamic compass is, however, matched by the grace, openness, clarity and musical fluency that are hallmarks of all Epos loudspeakers

M12

The high performance of the M12 ensures it excels as a 2 channel monitor, yet it's clever design guarantees it equally meets the increasing demand for high quality home theatre speaker.
The M12 features an aluminium dome tweeter designed in-house, using a high efficiency magnet system to improve sensitivity, transient response and reduce smearing. This improves imaging and enhances the pace, rhythm and timing characteristics that have become Epos hallmarks.
The well established Epos bass/midrange driver has an injection moulded cone piston, precision profiled to improve transient response and integration with the tweeter without the need for a complicated crossover. In addition it has now been fitted with an additional bucking magnet and shielding can for use in 'Home Theatre' systems.
The cabinet is a low diffraction design, eliminating secondary sources of sound, improving stereo imaging and detail resolution. Extensive internal bracing reduces cabinet coloration and a gas-flowed reflex port is used to reduce turbulence. The rear panel is made of 24mm MDF and the front baffle now screws into a solid frame at the front of the cabinet, which substantially increases the rigidity over the former ES12 design.
In true Epos tradition only one component is used in the crossover with the performance of the bass/mid driver being controlled mechanically. This results in a level of detail, resolution and communication unheard in a loudspeaker of this class.
Michael Creek, CEO, says, "The M12 is part of a remarkable line of new Epos loudspeakers, designed to exploit years of former Epos research and using sound engineering principles to enable greater flexibility. I am delighted with the end result and am confident that other music lovers will agree."

M15

The M15 remains faithful to the spirit of Epos with the emphasis on musicality and communication. This speaker satisfies the needs of the most discerning listener, whether it be for 2 channel or high quality home theatre listening.
Epos Acoustics proudly announced the world launch of a new model, the M15 loudspeaker, at CES2000 in Las Vegas and will be demonstrating it for the first time in Europe from the 1st to the 4th June at the Frankfurt Hi-End Show.
The M15 has been designed to be part of a more extensive Epos Home Theatre system. However, it will also be perfect as a high performance 2 channel floorstanding monitor.
The M15 features an 25mm aluminium dome tweeter designed in-house, using a high efficiency shielded magnet system, to improve sensitivity, transient response and reduce smearing. This improves imaging and enhances the pace, rhythm and timing characteristics that have become Epos hallmarks.
The well established Epos 150mm bass/midrange driver has a custom injection moulded cone piston, precision profiled to improve transient response and integration with the tweeter without the need for a complicated crossover.
It comes with four 8mm heavy duty floor spikes, to reduce mechanical resonances.
