Let me tell you my story...
I was born in the Soviet Union in the mid of the 60-th and lived behind the "Iron Curtain" where we had no chance to own such Hi-Fi, but being a kid, I dreamed to have a receiver like this. I kept my dream for many-many years and one day, 8-9 years ago, I managed to buy SX-1980 on eBay form the USA and it costed me USD 2500. The seller couldn't arrange delivery to Russia, so I asked a friend of mine, living in LA, to accept and keep the receiver until I come and pick it up by myself. The receiver was waiting for me in his garage for about a year. Than I came to LA and decided to take it away from my friend, but I didn't expected it to be so big and heavy, taking into account that it was packed in wooden furring, making it even heavier. I rented a Tahoe to take it to the hotel and the stuff, nice people at the hotel, helped me to unpack and than re-pack it into a cardboard box to make it lighter. The good news was that I was flying business class, so it costed me only additional 200 dollars to fly it to Moscow.
In Moscow there was another problem with the restoration - there was only one specialist who could really take a good TLC of vintage Hi-Fi like this and I had to wait for a half a year until he could find the time in his schedule to start working with my receiver. It took about three months and costed me 300 USD, but finally I got it back in excellent condition and order. I immediately hooked it up to my Pioneer CT-9191 cassette tape deck and Pioneer RT-1020 Reel-to-Reel tape deck. I wanted to have a complete set of top-of-the-line Pioneer Hi-Fi from 1978 as I saw it in my childhood in Pioneer printed catalogue. I also managed to buy Sony Esprit APM-4 loudspeakers when I was on business trip to Tokyo Japan and now I can enjoy my favorite music from the 70-th and 80-th through the Hi-Fi of the same era, that brings me back to my childhood and the time when "the trees were greener, sky was higher" and the life was still ahead with all it's wonderful promises.....
