I upgraded my firmware last night.
What a pain. Here is what I had to do to get it working:
I have a laptop with XP and a serial port.
I looked and after coming across a dozen or so null modem cables I found a standard 9 pin cable. I tried to get it to work several times and nothing would happen I would just get the error number 4 over and over again. I played with all of the buttons and retried several times. So knowing the trouble I have with conflicts on com ports in the past I removed everything on the PC until I had only one port to choose from. I still couldn’t get it to work. I didn’t know where the problem was coming from but I was beginning to suspect that the port on the 247 was not responding. I installed a Belkin F5U103 USB to serial adapter that I had lying around. I like this unit because it has LEDs to show the status of the communications. I tried again, but now I can see what is going on with the send receive lights flashing. Right away I can tell that the receiver is not responding at all. I tried turning it on and off but still no response. Then I did a reset on the unit. Tried it again and blink blink both send and receive lights going and I have success. Then when I got to the second half of the upgrade it did not want to cooperate.
I tried it several times, I could see that it was communicating with the receiver; it just didn’t want to negotiate the connection. After turning the unit off and on a couple of times and hitting the upgrade button repeatedly it finally connected and did the upgrade.
I turned on the PS3 set it to 1080p and BINGO for the first time since I have had this receiver I can use the 1080p and the screens don’t jump all over the place. One problem fixed. Thank You HK. I didn’t have time to test the audio but I do plan on doing it tonight.
I hope this help someone out there, just keep trying it will work.
